The Nick Rozanski Memorial Foundation and Dublin Education Foundation will be the beneficiaries of the annual Dublin 5K hosted by the Dublin City Schools Alumni Association on Oct. 13 at Glacier Ridge Metro Park.

Capt. Rozanski is a 1994 graduate of Dublin High School who was killed in the line of duty on April 4 while serving in Afghanistan as a member of the 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Rozanski was a member of the varsity soccer team when he attended Coffman and as an adult,he coached area youth soccer programs for more than 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Jenny, and two children.

The 5K kicks off at 9 a.m., Oct. 13 at the north end of Glacier Ridge Park.  Registration is $30 although Dublin City Schools Staff (code is DublinStaff) and Dublin City Schools Alumni Association Members (code is DublinAlumniMembers) can register with a $5 discount.  Runners can pick up packets from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Oct. 11 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Oct. 12 at the Columbus Running Company’s Dublin location, 6465 Perimeter Drive.

“We are deeply touched by and appreciative of the partnership the Dublin Alumni Association has offered to our Foundation,” Jenny Rozanski said. “The Dublin community was very important to my husband… it was a big part of his life.”

The Nick Rozanski Memorial Foundation was established to benefit students and families within the local Dublin community through scholarships and other charitable foundations.

Proceeds of this year’s race will also go to the Dublin Education Foundation, which funds initiatives within Dublin City Schools. The foundation has provided nearly $90,000 in grants to teachers and advisors for activities in and out of classrooms.

The Dublin Alumni Association created the 5K memorial after the death of Kate Waldron in November of 2008. Waldron, a 1999 graduate of Dublin Coffman High School and long-time resident of the City, died as a result of a car accident. She is survived by three children. An award will be given in her honor at this year’s 5K.

The Oct. 13 race will also feature a quarter-mile fun run/walk for children 12 and under; registration is $5.
